Dexter Manley Biography and Early Life

Dexter Manley is a former American football defensive end in the National Football League (NFL). He was born on February 2, 1959 in Houston, Texas, United States and he was raised there by his parents. While growing up, Manley always had an interest in football and his career as a football player began in his High School days.

Football Career

Dexter Manley was drafted by the Washington Redskins in 1981 and he went on to play for them for nine seasons. During his career with them, he won two super bowl titles and was a pro bowler in 1986 when he recorded a record 18.5 sacks.

In 1989, he failed his third drug test. He later went on to play for the Phoenix Cardinals and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After failing his fourth drug test, he retired from professional football on December 12, 1991.

Manley played for two seasons in the Canadian Football League with the Ottawa Rough Riders in 1992 and 1993 after being banned from the NFL. In 1995, Manley was convicted for cocaine possession and was sentenced to four years imprisonment of which he served two.

In 2002, he was named as of the 70 Greatest Redskins of All Time and he is also a member of the Washington Redskins Ring of Fame. Dexter Manley also played college football at Oklahoma State University and it was there that his football career began.
