The 2023 British Grand Prix was another exciting race for Formula 1 with some fantastic results. It was not as penalty-laden as the previous Grand Prix in Austria as there were amazing performances in this race, especially the drivers who placed on the podium.
Red Bull’s Max Verstappen took home another win at Silverstone Circuit with another impressive race while McLaren’s Lando Norris and Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton rounded out the podium at P2 and P3 respectively.
Sixth straight for Verstappen
Red Bull’s dominance in the 2023 F1 season has continued as Verstappen won his sixth straight race and eighth overall. Red Bull has a perfect record this season with 10 wins. That is just one below the record set by McLaren in 1988 with 11 consecutive victories. That is a fact that people who make Formula 1 betting wagers have to remember when Red Bull is involved.
This was a remarkable win for Max after getting off to an uncharacteristic poor start as Norris took the lead into the first corner. Max was still in second place but Norris’ McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri was close behind. As the race went on, Max kept performing as he took the lead at Lap 5 when he used the speed boost.
After the race, Max talked about how it was an uneasy win for him. He said, ‘We had a terrible start, so we need to look into why that was. So, of course, very happy that we won again, I mean, 11 wins in a row for the team, I think that’s pretty incredible, but it wasn’t straightforward today’.
An all-British duel for P2 at Silverstone
After Max took over P1, the duel for P2 was the main storyline at Silverstone Circuit. The two primary candidates were British drivers Norris and Hamilton were embroiled in a heated race. This was momentum for Norris as he scored a fourth-place finish the previous week in Austria.
At the end of the race, Norris came out on top over Hamilton because they knew Verstappen was too far ahead to chase. Lando was glad that he beat some of the obstacles and overcame his fellow Brit.
Norris said, ‘It was an amazing fight with Lewis, to hold him off, I made a few too many mistakes maybe. I did what I could, I brought the fight to Max for as long as possible. It’s a long, lonely race when you’re just in the middle but it’s amazing’.
McLaren had an impressive run during the British GP
Norris was not the only star for McLaren in this race because Piastri was also impressive. He was part of the top three in the early part of the race but he did not let up even if he was P4 for most of the race afterwards. Piastri was very much involved in the race for the podium as he only lost to Lewis by a tenth of a second.
The upgrades on the car helped both Norris and Piastri in this race. This was evident in Austria but they made further improvements on the car, leading to their superb performance. Even Verstappen was impressed with the two McLaren drivers and cars as he said they were super-quick from the start of the race.
It was not a perfect race for Norris and Piastri as the former complained about the choice of hard tires. He was not pleased with that decision because if he was on different tires, he believes he could have passed Max at P1.
Another disappointing race for Ferrari
After a solid performance for Ferrari and its drivers Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz at the Austrian GP, they had a disappointing race at Silverstone. Both Leclerc and Sainz finished in P9 and P10 respectively. That was a far cry from their performance in Austria when the former was on the podium and Sainz was in P4 turned P6 after penalties.
Leclerc has only one top-five finish in his last six races while Sainz has not cracked the top five at all in his last nine races. This continues a disappointing season for Ferrari because they have struggled to put out the best cars for their drivers and their adjustments with tire usage have been abysmal too.
The British GP was filled with exciting moments and disappointing performances, the perfect encapsulation of Formula 1. With two weeks in between the British GP and the Hungarian GP, those interested in Formula 1 betting can use this recent event as the basis for their wagers.
