Derek Riddell was born on the 11th of January, 1967 in Glasgow, Scotland and he was born to his mother Hope Ross, a teacher and former actress and to his father Ian Riddell, a former St Mirren and Berwick Rangers footballer.
He attended University of Strathcycle, where he graduated from with a degree in business before he then went on to train at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, where he graduated from in 1990.
