Many guests wonder what to bring to a couple’s wedding or reception. Most of what you need is there, including food and drink, but there are a few essentials you’ll want to have on hand. Here is a list of the must-haves that you as a guest should bring to any wedding that you attend for weather conditions, wardrobe messes, and camera moments.
Essentials to Bring to a Wedding
- Cash
We are aware that one of the best things about a wedding is the fact that it’s essentially a free party. Great location for a great meal without breaking the bank. However, there are some things that you need to pay for during the night. Open bar or barbarian? Note that there are weddings that do not include free drinks. Aren’t you driving? You may need to book a taxi back to your hotel. Having an after-party at a bar? You will probably need cash to buy drinks. Keep a few bucks in your wallet or stashed your credit card in your clutch so you don’t have to borrow $20 from another guest.
- Smartphone
While the happy couple may want you to leave your cell phone off during the ceremony (it certainly does), don’t leave it at home. Get directions to your wedding venue, check the wedding schedule on their website, take snapshots, video your moments, or order an Uber ride, you’ll need this villain. Remember that you should only carry electronic items with you. Do not put iPads, laptops, cameras, etc. in your bag.In addition to that, you should not forget to bring your powerbank with you especially when you want to use your phone to capture the beautiful moment of the couple. Surely, you will not want to miss capturing this beautiful moment, right?
- Any gift
Cash, checks, cards, and other small gifts can be brought to the front desk and immediately placed on the gift table. Larger gifts, on the other hand, should be sent directly to the couple’s home. The instructions are usually in the registry.
- Beauty essentials
Get ready for your photo shoots with powder, concealer, oil blotter, hairpins, and more for your beauty touch-up. Also, don’t forget to bring a compact mirror so you don’t have to go to the bathroom every time you reapply your lipstick.
- Tissues or Handkerchiefs
Heartfelt vows, romantic readings, and sentimental first dance songs will bring wedding guests to tears. If you’re worried about running water, keep a travel-size tissue in your bag.
- Extra shoes

Your sky-high heels are a perfect match for your cocktail dress, but your feet break on the dance floor. Consider getting a spare pair of shoes for the reception, such as ballet flats or cute sandals.
- Chewing gum or mint
Avoid smelling like garlic when mingling with others. You may meet the love of your life at this wedding, but you don’t want to disappoint him/her. Keep some breath mints or Tic Tacs in your bag to refresh yourself after dinner.
- Snacks
This tip only applies to some guests. If you have food allergies or serious dietary restrictions, be sure to bring snacks. After the ceremony and socializing at the cocktail hour, guests can look forward to dinner. Curb your appetite with easily available snacks like granola bars and nuts. If you’re staying at a hotel for a wedding, it’s a good idea to pack snacks as well, regardless of allergies.
- Band-aids
Sometimes painful blisters are inevitable, even when changing shoes. Pack band-aids to protect against nasty blisters that may occur or apply anti-blister products before the ceremony to prevent injuries altogether.
Wrapping Up
This wedding guest check list that we have prepared are only a few of the things that you need to bring. If you have more essentials, you can also include them in your clutch so that you will not have to worry a thing during the party.
