Sammy Kershaw was born Samuel Paul Kershaw on February 24, 1958 in Kaplan, Louisiana, United States. He was born to his parents named Minos Cashat (Father) and Emily Rachel Cashat (Mother).
His father died when he was just 12 years old, this made him to play roadhouses at nights in clubs to support his family. After struggling with alcohol and drug addiction, he quit music and began to work as a remodeling supervisor at Wal-Mart in 1988.
Career
Sammy Kershaw released his debut album tiled Don’t Go Near the Water in 1991 and it was certified Platinum by the RIAA and it had four hit singles. His second album released in 1993 was titled Haunted Heart and it was also successful.
In 1994, he released his third studio album titled Feelin’ Good Train. In 1996, he released his fourth album titled Politics, Religion and Her, it was certified Gold. In 1997, he dropped his fifth album titled Labor of Love and it was composed of ballads.
In 2003, he signed a Record deal with Audium Entertainment and went on to release his album titled I Want My Money Back. He later quit Audium Entertainment and signed a deal with Category 5 Records. In 2008, he was inducted into The Louisiana Music Hall of Fame because of his career achievements.
In 2007, Kershaw contested for the Lieutenant governor of Louisiana, but he finished second place as it was won by Mitch Landrieu. In 2010, he re-contested for the governor position but this time, he finished third. On June 27, 2016, he performed in The Villages, Florida.
