Rowland is best known for being a member of the music group Destiny’s Child which included Beyonce Knowles. The first music group she joined was called Girl’s Tyme and she did so at the age of 8. She later debuted on Star Search, which was the biggest national TV show at that time. In 1995, she joined Destiny Child. In 1997, they were signed by Columbia Records and in 1998, they released their debut album which was self-titled. In 1999, they rose to fame after releasing their album titled The Writing’s on the Wall which sold over 15 million copies. In 2002, she released her debut solo album titled Simply Deep which debuted at number 12 position on the Billboard 200 chart. In 2005, she collaborated with Beyonce to found the Survivor Foundation. In June 2007, she embarked on the Ms. Kelly Tour to promote her second solo album Ms. Kelly. In 2010, she launched the I Heart My Girlfriends, a charity organization focused on self-esteem, date violence preventions and other causes. She has also starred in films like Freddy vs. Jason in 2003, The Seat Filler in 2005, Think Like a Man in 2012 and more.
