Joonas Suotamo was born Joonas Viljami Suotamo on the 3rd of October, 1986 in Espoo, Uusimaa, Finland and he was born to his father Viljami Suotamo and to his mother Felica Suotamo.
He attended a High School before he then enrolled at Pennsylvania State University, where he played the power forward and center positions for the Penn State Nittany Lions and he later graduated with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in music, arts and movies in 2008.

Suotamo began his acting career in 2015 and he has gone on to feature in movies such as Star Wars: The Force Awakens in 2015, Star Wars: The Last Jedi in 2017, Solo: A Star Wars Story in 2018, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker in 2019 and more.
Before he began his acting career, Suotamo played basketball professionally, he played seven seasons in Finland’s basketball leagues which included four seasons in the top tier Korisliigia and he went on to play three games for the Finnish national basketball team and 66 games for the junior national teams.
