Diana Gabaldon was born Diana Jacqueline Gabaldon on January 11, 1952, in Scottsdale, Arizona, United States and she was also raised there by her parents.
She was born to her parents named Tony Gabaldon (Father), an Arizona state senator from Flagstaff and Jacqueline Sykes (Mother). Her father was of Mexican origin and her mother was of English descent.
Diana Gabaldon Education
Diana Gabaldon attended Northern Arizona University from 1970 till 1973 and she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in zoology. She later studied at University of California, San Diego, Scripps Institution of Oceanography from 1973 till 1975 and graduated with a Master of Science in marine biology. She also graduated with a PhD in behavioral ecology from Northern Arizona University.
Career
Gabaldon was the founding editor of Science Software Quarterly in 1984 while she was employed at the Center for Environmental Studies at Arizona State University.
In 1988, she began to write novels even though she had no experience and this was the birth of her popular novel series Outlander series. As of 2014, the Outlander series has a total of eight novels.
On August 9, 2014, a television adaptation of the Outlander series premiered on Starz in the United States. She also made a cameo appearance in the novel adaptation where she starred as Iona MacTavish.
