In 2003, his mother Bethany Hamilton lost her arm in a shark attack in 2003. His father, Adam Dirks is famously known for his marriage to Bethany and he previously worked as a substitute teacher and at a youth ministry. Bethany became more famous after the 2003 shark attack and this has made her appear as a guest on many television shows which include; The Biggest Loser, 20/20, Good Morning America, Inside Edition, The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Today Show, The Tonight Show, Dude Perfect and more.
